1st place athena, 6th place overall...
COLD COLD COLD!
Arriving at 8am, the overcast sky and wet conditions had me worried. After registration, I started a twenty minute car trip to all the surrounding stores looking for gloves- my forgotten biking and riding imperative. I was so grateful for those little white cotton heavensends!
The swim was indoor in a 50m lane pool, with each competitor starting at 10s intervals. I was surprised at the difference between swimming a 25m and 50m pool. It was noticeably more difficult. I set up half of my transition in the pool area, and the other half outside :).
The bike was scary because we started off with a graded downhill with a steep turn at the bottom. I tried to apply my brakes halfway down the hill and skidded on the wet street- that effectively halted my desire to speed on the bike. It hailed for a couple of minutes, and I wished I had a shield against the arrow-like projectiles hitting my face, arms, and legs!
After biking dismount, I could walk for my legs were COLD! It took about a mile to warm up to an even jog, and by the second mile I was feeling old pains from the marathon two weeks prior. I was lucky to cross the finish line :)!
To top things off, after an episode of water-ridden pictures, my random picture-taker DROPPED my camera into the MUD! It now effectively doesn't close or take pictures, and I can't access my tri pictures. Hence why I'm unusually picture-less :(.
