Working Out for a Reason

After I left high school, encountered the inevitable freshman fifteen, and finally bought a two-strap backpack, I developed an emotional response mechanism: running to confront the overwhelming feelings of frustration, depression, or stress.

For the past five years I've been exercising regularly, mostly because I want to take care of my body and keep myself healthy. However, today I reverted to the initial running reason: to combat tears.

I'm trying to work a 3/4 time job, go to school full time in addition to working on my MS thesis, be president of the ballroom dance team, and still find time to date and exercise.

Today life crumbled in on itself, and I seriously couldn't believe how long I exercised: 3 hours.

Run: 3x (2min. @ 6.5mph, 1.5min @8.0 mph, 1min. @ 9.5 mph: sustain for 20 minutes)
Swim: wu:100m, 3x500m, 1x250m (25m sprint, 25 min recovery)
Sleep: 5 hours in the past two days.
